Kehl am Rhein - ma petite Allemagne

Ce vendredi - oder Freitag - je suis allé en Allemagne pour la première fois. Ce n'était pas choquant, de traverser la frontière ou même devoir parler dans une langue comme jamais avant. En fait, le voyage était très zen, particulièrement en traversant le Rhin et en marchant dans les grands jardins sur les rives.

Toutefois, les nouveaux environnements sont parfois durs d'en adapter. J'ai du me préparer beaucoup avant de parler avec n'importe qui, parce que j'ai parlé seulement allemand - c'est à dire, le peu que je pouvais. De base, c'était « hallo, ja, nein, » et « danke ». Je n'avais pas l'opportunité de dire « Ich spreche kein Deutsch, aber meine Freundin in Österreich gewohnt hat » (ma phrase tout à fait préparé pour engager avec les germanophones).

Ce qui était plus difficile était d'être plus ou moins analphabète. Bien qu'il y ait quelques choses pour lire en français et bien en anglais, j'étais complètement incapable de comprendre le majorité des mots sur des signes et des produits. En tout cas, j'ai survécu - et je me suis amusé !

This Friday - oder Freitag - I went to Germany for the first time. It wasn't a shock, to cross the border or even have to speak a language like never before. In fact, the trip was very "zen," particularly in crossing the Rhine and in walking in the big gardens on the banks.

Nonetheless, new environments are sometimes hard to adapt to. I had to prepare myself a lot before talking with anyone, since I spoke only German - that is, the little I could. Basically it was "hallo, ja, nein" and "danke." I didn't have the opportunity to say "Ich spreche kein Deutsch, aber meine Freundin in Österreich gewohnt hat" (my thoroughly prepared phrase for engaging German speakers).

What was harder was to be more or less illiterate. Although there were some things to read in French as well as English, I was completely incapable of understanding the majority of words on signs and products. In any case, I survived - and I had fun!
